Miriam Dalli Opens Up About The Recent Power Cut Crises

Jul 31 2023 Share

In an exclusive interview with Malta Daily, Energy Minister Miriam Dalli opens up about her experience during the recent power cuts that struck Malta, leaving residents in the dark for two challenging weeks. Facing the formidable task of dealing with a crisis of such magnitude, Minister Dalli recalls the tension and her deep concern for the well-being of the Enemalta workers and the affected citizens.

“It was a difficult two weeks,” admits Minister Dalli, her sincerity evident as she delves into her emotional journey during the trying period. “My biggest worry was first of all for the Enemalta workers who were fixing those damages that arose in those temperatures and for the residents. I mean my worry was for those people who were running out of electricity.”

The recent power cuts in Malta caused widespread frustration and inconvenience among the population. Minister Dalli empathises with those who were directly impacted, acknowledging the hardships they endured. “I was talking to them, I know what they were going through—the frustration, the inconvenience,” she shares.

The personal toll of the power cuts weighed heavily on Minister Dalli, who couldn’t help but worry for her parents and other affected individuals. “I was worrying for my parents, as I am also worrying for other people,” she confesses.

Miriam Dalli went on to state that “When you have a moment like this, it is the moment you have to see what are the solutions, what are the priorities.”

Her focus during the crisis was to restore power to the affected areas as swiftly as possible. Recognising that a lack of electricity can profoundly impact the daily lives of citizens, she understood the urgency of the situation. “The main priority was to fix as soon as possible the faults that started to arise, to give the light back to the people,” she says.

Minister Dalli acknowledges that restoring power is only part of the solution; identifying the root causes of the issues and formulating long-term solutions is equally essential. “You can give the light back to the people until the faults are still being fixed, and we identify the problem and come up with solutions,” she explains.

Throughout the interview, Energy Minister was asked a series of questions by our host Fabian Demicoli. This includes the way forward, compensation, and her position as Energy Minister. Miriam Dalli also gave her views about what the Nationalist Party said during the past few days.
