EU expresses concern over Malta’s ‘discriminatory’ ban on unvaccinated travellers

EU expresses concern over Malta’s ‘discriminatory’ ban on unvaccinated travellers
Jul 12 2021 Share

Concern was expressed by the European Commission over Malta’s recent decision to ban travellers who have not yet been fully vaccinated and in possession of certificates from entering the country. Commission spokesperson Christian Wigand stated in a press briefing earlier today how that despite being true member states are allowed to implement restrictions to protect public health, any measure which restricts freedom of movement needs to be proportionate and non-discriminatory.

He added how a vaccination certificate ‘cannot be a precondition for the exercise of free movement, this is one of the main principles of the EU Digital COVID-19 certificate regulation.’ These latest measures are feared as being discriminatory against people who are not fully vaccinated. Contact has been made with Malta, Wigand stated, asking for explanation of the measures. The issue will be raised in a member states coordination meeting.

Prime Minister Robert Abela described the measures as tough but necessary since Malta’s active cases shot up from 28 to over 600 in just two weeks. The measures in place restrict travel to only those with a recognised vaccine certificate as of Wednesday 14th.

Dua Lipa sued for using paparazzi photo of herself on Instagram

Dua Lipa sued for using paparazzi photo of herself on Instagram

Singer star Dua Lipa has allegedly been sued for putting a paparazzi photo of herself on Instagram. According to US court documents, Dua Lipa had been snapped in a queue at an airport back in February 2019. The star went on to share the photo with her fans ‘without permission or authorisation.’ Integral Images says she profited off of the photo, as her Instagram acts as a marketing tool for her music.

$150,000 in damages and a jury trial are being sought by the suer in question. Lipa is also being prevented from committing other acts of alleged infringement as well as legal costs. The company Integral Images claimed that the star knowingly posted the photo to social media without permission. This is because, even though many people assume they can post an image in which they are the subject, copyright law means the photographer owns the rights.

Bella Hadid rocks stunning golden lung necklace for red carpet

American model Bella Hadid rocked a golden lung necklace for the Cannes Film Festival Sunday, unlike anything else seen on the red carpet. The 24-year-old model turned heads at she wore a necklace inspired by the human lungs and designed by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli’s Fall 2021 collection.

The piece was described by Schiaparelli as ‘Golden trompe l’œil lungs with rhinestones’, with trompe l’œil describing the artistic illusion of tricking the eye into perceiving a painted or flat detail on a 3D object.

The model accompanied the necklace, which also somewhat resembles the roots of a tree reaching outwards, with a long-sleeved dress in wool crepe with a low-cut neckline.

During the yesterday clash between Italy and England for the Euro 2020 final, the game was briefly stopped due to a pitch invader running shirtless on the field. The fan briefly disrupted the match in the later minutes and evaded capture before being led away from the grass. It was later revealed that the young man was Adam Harrison, a musician who appeared on Little Mix: The Search. He was a member of boyband ‘New Priority’ which appeared on the BBC programme.

Following the stunt, Harrison shared an image of himself captioned ‘At the end of the day… I love my country and I did this fall for a good time. Nothing but love and respect for England tonight.’ He also posted later, stating ‘well that was fun.’ BBC commentator Guy Mowbray stated: ‘Somebody will be going home much sooner than they wanted to I suspect. Its not what anybody wanted.’ It seems however that, despite England’s eventual defeat, Harrison enjoyed his little stunt.
