Gymnast Simone Biles, accompanied by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, accepted the Olympic flag, followed by a rendition of the U.S. national anthem performed by singer H.E.R. Staying on stage, H.E.R. played as Tom Cruise made his entrance, setting the tone for what LA’s Games might entail.

After receiving the Olympic flag, Cruise jumped onto his motorcycle and sped out of the stadium. A Mission Impossible-style movie montage followed, featuring Cruise transporting the flag to the U.S. with a skydive and a dash to the Hollywood sign.

The ceremony then shifted to Los Angeles, where the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed live from Venice Beach, and Billie Eilish followed with a performance of her latest hit, “Birds of a Feather,” capping off the evening.

Preliminary information suggests that the woman was killed around 2 a.m. in her apartment located on Triq Maestro Giuseppe Busuttil in Swatar, Birkirkara. The suspect, identified as an Irish national, was later shot by police near the Hilton Hotel in Paceville.

Sources familiar with the case revealed that while there had been no prior reports of violence between the two, the woman had previously lodged a harassment complaint against the suspect after he sent her several emails following their breakup.

It was also noted that there were no signs of forced entry at her residence.

A police press conference is expected later on Monday morning to provide further details on the incidents.
