England’s men’s under-17 team claimed a second consecutive victory in the UEFA U17 EURO qualifiers with a commanding 4-0 win over Latvia today. This triumph follows their 4-0 opener against Malta and brings Neil Ryan’s side to six points in Group 2.
England started strong at Malta’s Centenary Stadium, creating early chances despite goalkeeper Nils Balaguss initially holding firm for Latvia. The breakthrough came 17 minutes in when Luke Rawlings fired a well-placed half-volley off the crossbar to put the Young Lions ahead.
Not long after, England doubled their lead with Luca Williams-Barnett finding space in the box and finishing coolly at the near post. Just before the break, Igor Tyjon extended the lead, capitalizing on a rebound after his initial shot was saved.
Early in the second half, winger Harry Howell sprinted past two defenders and slotted in a composed left-footed finish to make it 4-0, securing the win for England. The Young Lions maintained control for the remainder of the match, cruising comfortably to victory.
England will face Sweden on October 30 as they aim for a perfect group-stage run and advance to Round 2 of the qualifiers in the spring.
