Enemalta is working around the clock to restore electricity to approximately 5,000 consumers affected by power cuts in San Lawrenz, Gozo, and Gżira/St Julian’s, Malta. The issue, which arose overnight, involved multiple faults in these areas, making the restoration process more challenging.
During a media briefing, Executive Chairman Ryan Fava explained that the complexity of the faults extended the time needed to address the issues. He noted that while Enemalta typically restores power within a reasonable timeframe, the severe damage in these instances required prolonged efforts.
Energy Minister Miriam Dalli expressed gratitude to Enemalta workers for their dedication and highlighted an ongoing ambitious plan to strengthen the distribution system. Over the past seven months, new distribution cables were laid in several localities, particularly those hit by severe power cuts last year during a heatwave.
The second phase of this investment is now in progress, focusing on areas including Marsa, Żebbuġ, Siġġiewi, Buġibba, San Pawl il-Baħar, Qawra, Sliema, Gżira, St Julian’s, Birkirkara, and various zones in Gozo. This work aims to enhance the resilience and reliability of the electricity distribution network across Malta.
