Emergency Intervention Carried Out on Swieqi Bridge

Jun 12 2024 Share

In an urgent response to structural concerns, an emergency intervention was executed on a bridge in Swieqi, following a partial collapse earlier today. Infrastructure Malta issued a statement detailing the situation in St. Julian’s, revealing that during scheduled maintenance on Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli, a significant crack was discovered in the concrete underpass connecting Triq is-Swieqi to Triq Santu Wistin. The damage caused a section of the concrete to detach and fall.

The immediate response involved closing the bridge and deploying workers under professional supervision to safely remove any loose concrete sections. The bridge was reopened a few hours later after an architect certified it as safe for public use.

Earlier today, PN local council candidate Jordan Galea Pace highlighted the issue on Instagram, sharing photos of the partially collapsed bridge and calling for immediate intervention to ensure public safety. Galea Pace’s post raised awareness and prompted a quick response from local authorities.

This incident underscores the importance of regular maintenance and prompt action to address infrastructure issues. The community’s safety remains a top priority, and Infrastructure Malta’s rapid response ensured that the bridge was made secure without significant disruption to traffic.

A recent concerned post by a Valletta resident is making the rounds on social media as it shows a masked man violently attempting to break into a Valletta residence.

“Masked men from head-to-toe, attacking our property with a crowbar in the middle of a Monday night. Our guests staying one flight of stairs up had the shock of their lives, on their last night in Malta. My family & I, a couple of floors up, haven’t been able to properly sleep since”, the shocked resident wrote.

Unsure whether it was an attempted break-in or a direct attack. The media shared sparked a conversation regarding Valletta’s safety. Swieqi Bridge Collapse Concerns Rise Again

Swieqi Bridge Collapse Concerns Rise Again
Jun 12 2024 Share

Concerns over the current state of a bridge in Swieqi have risen after the road was closed due to a partial structure collapsing.

An integral part of the Paceville area, the bridge underwent some works in past months, with Infrastructure Malta CEO Ivan Falzon previously stating that the bridge is not at risk of collapse.

St. Julian’s PN local council candidate Jordan Galea Pace took to Instagram Stories to share his concerns over the flag, alongside a couple of pictures a slightly damaged bridge.

“Utterly shocking”, Galea Pace wrote, “What was predicted to happen is happening, I’ve brought this up a few weeks ago and no action has been taken since, they covered up the sinking bridge with a fresh layer of tarmac but ignored the foundation and haven’t answered my emails and requests for clarification.”

Always vocal on issues concerning the public, Galea Pace went on to ask, “Is anyone going to be held responsible? Is anyone going to take action? Or are we just going to sit and wait til Swieqi Bridge collapses on residents?
