Work On Chadwick Lakes Rural Road Construction Progressing

Work On Chadwick Lakes Rural Road Construction Progressing
Aug 27 2024 Share

Work is advancing smoothly on the reconstruction of a rural road at Chadwick Lakes. This project, carried out in collaboration between Infrastructure Malta (IM) and the Energy and Water Agency (EWA), focuses on reinforcing the retaining wall that channels rainwater, while also strengthening the road’s foundation to enhance safety and accessibility.

Sections of the road near Wied il-Qliegħa and Slampa in Rabat had previously collapsed. Over the years, erosion and shifting had damaged parts of the wall, which formed one of the largest water basins at Chadwick Lakes, leading to a road collapse that cut off access between different parts of the area. To prevent further damage, the remaining wall that supports the road and basin is being rebuilt.

The reconstruction includes installing two rows of piles (ground columns) to reinforce the land around the basin. In total, 180 piles are being constructed to provide solid foundations, as the area’s geology consists of clay and relatively weak rock.

During a site visit by Environment Minister Miriam Dalli and Infrastructure Minister Chris Bonett, EWA CEO Manuel Sapiano and IM CEO Steve Ellul highlighted the importance of the project in supporting the environment and ensuring the sustainability of the area. The work is being monitored by the Environment and Resources Authority and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage.

Mariah Carey Announces Passing Of Mum, Sister On Same Day
Aug 27 2024 Share

Mariah Carey announced on Monday that her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, both died on the same day.

The Grammy-winning singer expressed heartbreak over the loss, saying, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” and revealed the tragic coincidence of her sister passing away on the same day.

Carey shared that she was grateful to have spent her mother’s last week with her and thanked everyone for their support while requesting privacy during this difficult time.

The cause of their deaths has not been disclosed. Patricia was an opera singer and had divorced Carey’s father when the singer was three years old.

Carey had a complicated relationship with both her mother and sister, as detailed in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

She described her relationship with her mother as a mix of pride, pain, and gratitude, while her connection with her sister was distant due to safety concerns.

Despite their difficulties, Carey maintained contact with her mother, and they even recorded a duet together for her second Christmas album in 2010.
