Elderly Man Dies After Falling From Balcony In Ħal Safi

At approximately 4 p.m. today, the Police received a distress call requesting assistance on Triq iż-Żurrieq, Ħal Safi.

Upon arrival at the scene, preliminary investigations revealed that a 79-year-old man had suffered a fall from a balcony at his residence, resulting in serious injuries.

Emergency medical personnel promptly attended to the victim, and he was swiftly transported to Mater Dei Hospital via ambulance.

Tragically, despite efforts to save him, the elderly man was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The case was brought to the attention of Police Magistrate Dr. Caroline Farrugia Frendo, who has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police investigations into the matter are currently ongoing, with further details expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.

19 families will benefit from social housing project inaugurated in Kirkop

In Kirkop, Minister Roderick Galdes inaugurated another social housing project with an investment exceeding €2.6 million, whereby 19 families will benefit from this project.

Minister Galdes mentioned that this social housing project, named after the late Joe ‘Peppinu’ Cassar, joins other buildings that have opened their doors to families in need over the past years.

“Over the past two years, we have opened over 160 social housing apartments across six different localities. These buildings have provided hundreds of people with the opportunity to begin their future under a decent roof, despite challenging circumstances,” stated Minister Galdes.

Minister Galdes emphasised Government’s commitment to continue implementing further social housing projects, which align with the numerous schemes launched and strengthened by the Housing Authority in recent years.

Spazju Kreattiv collaborates with Art Explora to launch a unique festival aboard a museum-boat in Malta, offering ten days of free artistic and cultural programming both on board and on the quayside.

Scheduled from March 21st to 31st, 2024, at Xatt Pinto, Valletta Waterfront, the event inaugurates a remarkable maritime journey across the Mediterranean, with Malta as its first destination among a series of 20 stops. The Art Explora Festival, organized by the Art Explora Foundation, aims to democratize access to the arts globally.

The festival, hosted on the museum-boat and dedicated pavilions on the quayside, offers a diverse program curated by world-renowned architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. It includes exhibitions, virtual reality experiences, performances, discussions, film screenings, and music concerts. Over Spring 2024 to Autumn 2026, the museum-boat will travel to 15 Mediterranean countries, connecting artists and cultural organizations to envision a new Mediterranean vision.

Designed by architects Axel de Beaufort and Guillaume Verdier, the museum-boat measures 46.5 meters long and 55 meters high, welcoming up to 2,000 visitors daily. It hosts immersive exhibitions, including a collaboration with the Louvre highlighting female figures in Mediterranean civilizations.

Accompanying the museum-boat is a festival village on the quayside, featuring a program developed by Spazju Kreattiv, focusing on local and international art scenes. The festival aims to engage diverse audiences, fostering dialogue and experimentation while addressing urgent socio-political concerns.

The inaugural weekend introduces “Ocean Weekends,” featuring discussions and film screenings on ocean climate emergencies. The festival also offers cross-residencies for artists and researchers from countries visited by the Art Explora Festival.

Overall, the Art Explora Festival invites everyone to join a transformative journey, uniting communities through the universal language of art and exploring cultural connections between Malta and upcoming ports of call.
