Eighth Loggerhead Turtle Nest of 2024 Discovered at Ir-Ramla l-Ħamra, Gozo

Aug 9 2024 Share

The Environment & Resources Authority (ERA) and Nature Trust Malta (NTM) are thrilled to announced the confirmation of the eighth loggerhead turtle nest of 2024 at Ir-Ramla l-Ħamra in Gozo. The nest was discovered in the early hours of this morning, marking a significant moment in this year’s nesting season.

Remarkably, this nest was laid by the same turtle that previously laid the sixth nest of the season. After the turtle safely laid its eggs, ERA officers promptly arrived on site to ensure the nest was protected.

The public is reminded to avoid any interaction with turtles during nesting attempts, as noise and light can disturb the turtles, potentially causing them to abandon their nesting efforts. Any sightings of turtle activity should be reported immediately to ERA or NTM.

The loggerhead turtle, known in Maltese as il-fekruna l-komuni (Caretta caretta), is a globally endangered species protected by national and international laws. Capturing, disturbing, or harming these turtles or their eggs is illegal and can result in significant fines. The nesting site at Ir-Ramla l-Ħamra is also a protected area under Maltese and EU legislation.

To report turtle activity, contact ERA at 2292 3500 or NTM at 9999 9505. For volunteering opportunities, reach out to NTM at [email protected].

Dolce & Gabbana Launches Perfume For Dogs

Aug 9 2024 Share

Fashion house Dolce & Gabbana has launched a new perfume for dogs called ‘Fefé’ inspired by Domenico Dolce’s poodle. The product is sold in a 100 millilitre green glass bottle stamped with a gold plated paw, and comes with a complimentary Dolce & Gabbana dog collar. The perfume is being sold for 99 euros.

The perfume is alcohol-free and is certified to be safe for pets. The mist includes notes of Ylang-Ylang, musk and Sandalwood.

Though all of the dog owners consulted agreed that the fragrance is well accepted by their dogs and is vet approved, some vets are sceptical.

The concern arises as the fragrance may interfere with the animal’s sense of smell and may cover up odours which may be indicative of certain diseases such as sebaceous dermatitis.

In shocking news, Abel, JD and Martina’s last ever show which was supposed to take place this morning was unexpectedly cancelled, with a Best Of recorded show put out instead.

In a statement released by the iconic radio personalities, they confirmed that they had a spectacular 3-hour show planned filled with personal moments, great content and high-profile guests lined up to make a special appearance.

They also revealed that the fact they won’t be able to say a proper goodbye and have their final show on Vibe FM, makes them incredibly sad.

The trio thanked their diehard fans for all of their love and support over the past 10 years and stated that life will move onwards and upwards.

The public quickly voiced their disappointment in the comments, wishing the trio luck for their next adventures in life and thanking them for providing so many great early morning memories.

In contrast to Abel, JD and Martina’s statement, Vibe FM released their own statement revealing that the show was not cancelled and could have still gone on air but  the three presenters allegedly decided not to adhere to the respectful conditions recommended by management.
