The Nationalist Party staunchly advocates for improved wages and working conditions for educators, emphasizing the vital importance of investing in education to ensure no child is left behind. This sentiment was expressed by the Party’s leader, Bernard Grech, who led a delegation in a meeting with the leadership of the Teachers’ Union (MUT) during Labor Day activities.
Grech underscored the pivotal role of the education sector in shaping a knowledgeable and skilled populace, affirming the party’s commitment to significantly enhancing the working conditions of educators across all levels. This commitment includes substantial salary increases, measures to improve work-life balance, and incentives for ongoing professional development.
Furthermore, the Nationalist Party aims to streamline administrative tasks to allow educators to focus on teaching, while also striving to enhance support for students with special needs by engaging more Learning Support Educators (LSEs) and providing them with specialized training.
The President of the MUT commended the Nationalist Party’s consistent efforts in supporting educators and fostering positive relations between the party and the union. He expressed gratitude for the party’s backing during recent protests by educators.
Accompanying Grech were Shadow Ministers for Education and Trades, Justin Schembri; for Hobbies and Lifelong Learning, Charles Azzopardi; and for the Maritime Sector, Social Dialogue, and the Fight Against the Cost of Living, Ivan Castillo. Additionally, Miriana Calleja Testaferrata De Noto, a candidate for the European Parliament election, was also present.
