Malta’s Minister for Education, Youth, Sport and Research, Clifton Grima, announced on Facebook that the Government and the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) have reached a significant milestone.
After extensive negotiations, an agreement has been reached, allowing the MUT to consult its members for approval of a new sectoral agreement. Grima expressed gratitude to all participants in the discussions for their dedication and hard work, which were crucial in reaching this stage.
The agreement, which marks the culmination of months of negotiations, now awaits the approval of union members. These members must vote on the deal before it can be implemented. As of now, the specific details of the agreement remain undisclosed.
In a recent statement, the MUT stated that educators, who are employed in church or state schools and whose grades are covered by the agreement, are to register for participation in the online vote. This step is essential for the democratic process within the union, ensuring that all relevant members have the opportunity to voice their opinion on the proposed agreement.
