A new interactive and educational center, located within Marsaskala Family Park, has recently opened its doors to the public, offering a wealth of knowledge on Malta’s waste management systems and best practices.
Developed by WasteServ Malta, the ECOHIVE Academy stands as the pioneering center of its kind, dedicated to educating visitors on waste management and promoting sustainable behaviors through interactive exhibits and digital experiences.
Joined by Miriam Dalli, Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Regeneration of the Grand Harbour, and Richard Bilocca, CEO of WasteServ, members of the press were invited to explore the offerings of this innovative hub.
Minister Dalli hailed the completion of the project, citing the ECOHIVE Academy as a manifestation of the government’s forward-looking approach to waste management. She stressed the importance of viewing waste as a valuable resource and expressed optimism that the center would bridge the gap between public perception and reality.
The ECOHIVE Academy delivers an immersive experience for visitors of all ages, leveraging augmented reality, interactive displays, and digital games to convey the significance of sustainability and waste management. It aims to make learning about these crucial topics engaging and accessible to all.
Richard Bilocca, CEO of WasteServ, underscored the necessity of investing in future generations, noting that the ECOHIVE Academy not only enhances learning experiences but also encourages individuals of all ages to participate in positive change. This initiative reflects WasteServ’s enduring commitment to education.
Divided into various zones, each dedicated to different aspects of waste management within the ECOHIVE project, the center allows visitors to explore using tablets and QR codes, unlocking games and accessing valuable information on effective waste management and its role in fostering a circular economy.
