The Screen Malta grant, administered by the Malta Film Commission aims to lend a helping hand to local creators, with film commissioner Johann Grech currently engaging in sessions with local film crews, all of which will hopefully contribute to a more sustainable film industry in Malta.

The Malta Film Commission has been gaining much momentum in the past years, with 17 projects benefitting from a total of €586,346 with this new scheme closing on 30 June.

Malta Air to operate 5 new routes to Greece and Italy

As the Tourism Industry begins to approach its anticipated resurgence in June, Ryanair have announced the launch of five new Malta routes to Italian locations Brindisi, Cagliari, Genoa and Trapani as well as Chania in Greece, which will be part of Malta Air’s operational schedule this summer.

Minister Clayton Bartolo took to Facebook to hail such news, highlighting the crucial nature of air connectivity and its contribution to tourism resurgence.

Malta Air CEO David O’ Brien expressed Ryanair’s commitment to boosting Malta’s Summer ’21 schedule and air traffic, going on to commend Malta’s vaccination roll-out with 40% of the country having already received one dose.

Denmark becomes first European country to drop AstraZeneca for good

The country of Denmark has announced that it will stop using the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for good over recent concerns of rare cases of side effects.

It therefore becomes the first European country to drop the AstraZeneca vaccine, despite the World Health Organization’s recommendation to carry on using the jab.

Denmark was the very first country to suspend inoculation with AstraZeneca vaccines back when concerns of very rare but serious side effects, with many countries following suit only to resume after the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) recommendation.

No clear indication of when sports activities will return – Prof. Gauci

During the Times of Malta’s ‘Ask Charmaine’ segment, Superintendent for Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci stated that while the Health Authorities have conducted a risk-assessment exercise, categorising activities by risk, sports activities carry higher risk than many other activities.

Prof. Gauci stated that when the time comes for these kind of activities, organised sport and sports activities will be allowed but for the time being they cannot be held as they carry high-levels of risk.

Prof. Gauci stated that they are constantly monitoring the situation and responsible decisions will be taken, but no clear indication was given of when sports are to return.
