Apart from the brutal killing of young Turkish woman Pelin Kaya, the crash caused by Jeremie Camilleri earlier this year caused around €51,000 worth of structural damage.

The compilation of evidence against Camilleri continued on Monday, with the perpetrator being accused of the wilful homicide of Pelin Kaya, who was walking home after celebrating her 30th birthday.

Camilleri drove a car into a KFC outlet in Gżira after hitting Kaya with the BMW X5. A LESA representative informed the court that around 3 days after the accident, the defendant’s mother settled a speeding fine which Camilleri incurred with the same vehicle.

The court was informed by General Manager of Food Chain Ltd, the company which operates KFC restaurants in Malta, that around €37,012 were spent in repairs on the outlet.

Meanwhile, the director of the Paul and Rocco petrol station testified to state that the cost of the damage caused amounted to around €15,000. Apart from this, damaged pumps had to be replaced and excavations carried out to inspect for any damage. This amount totalled to €14,219.

BirdLife Malta kept the public up to date with the fate of the White Storks which roosted in Malta over the weekend, revealing that they have continued their northern migration to Italy.

The storks arrived in Malta to spend approximately 24 hours on the island, having been sighted soaring over various areas in the south of Malta before continuing their journey.

Members of the public kept close tabs with BirdLife Malta to ensure that the migrating birds were safe, prompting the NGO to issue thanks to all those who helped in the safeguarding of these birds.

Police officers had been called to the scene where the storks had roosted after a few shots were heard in the vicinity. Two persons were apprehended to be questioned after they were seen acting suspicious in the roosting zone.
