€500 reward for information after beloved stray cat was burnt alive
Aug 23 2021 Share

After a beloved and local favourite stray cat named Tommy was doused in petrol and burned alive, an animal rights NGO is offering up to €500 to anyone with any information on those responsible for such a heinous and barbaric act. The Real Animal Foundation issued the reward on Monday, with coo-founder Romina Frendo stating that all information will be passed on to the police but confidentiality will be respected.

Police stated that they were investigating the case after receiving a report last Monday that a cat carcass had turned up in Triq il-Polverista in Cospicua. Animal Welfare Commissioner Alison Bezzina stated that such acts of cruelty are ‘despicable and reflective of a dead conscience.’ The killing left animal lovers in shock and disbelief, calling for the quick find of whoever is responsible. Confidential information could be sent via email on [email protected] or 77550550.

MUMN calls €25 million Mater Dei robotics equipment utter failure

MUMN calls €25 million Mater Dei robotics equipment utter failure
Aug 23 2021 Share

The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) stated that two robotic computer systems installed in 2017 to handle medicine administration were a complete waste of money and an utter failure. The two systems, which were nicknamed ‘Mario’ and ‘Sophia’, were deployed to ensure that no errors occurred when administering drugs and medicine. This however was not the case, as the union alleged how the systems failed so frequently over two whole years that it surpassed any form of human error, making the nurses’ work much more difficult.

This is because the robotics were prescribing wrong dosages/medications to patients. Union spokespersons pointed out how if it wasn’t for the nurses double and triple checking the drugs, patients would have suffered. Apart from this, Mario and Sophia would cease to work, leaving nurses unable to give any medication. With drug administration having become a nightmare and the project manager having resigned, the MUMN is insisting that the robots should be removed from Mater Dei.

Aug 23 2021 Share

Last Friday on AEW Rampage, CM Punk officially returned to wrestling after 2,763 days out of action. In that time, the fan favourite tried his hand in MMA with UFC and acting in some films and shows. CM Punk, or Phil Brooks’, return didn’t come as a shock to some fans as it has been reported by some wrestling insiders that he will return to wrestling in his hometown of Chicago.

Some fans were captured crying when his entrance song lit up the arena. CM Punk’s return is undoubtedly the most awaited in sports entertainment history. Fans have been holding on for a return from CM Punk ever since he left WWE back in 2014. The wrestler developed a large following after publicly berating WWE’s backroom staff like Vince McMahon.

After his monologue, Punk challenged an overseeing Darby Allin to a fight at AEW All Out on the 5th of September in Chicago. To make things harder for the self pronounced best wrestler in the world, Darby Allin will have legendary wrestler Sting ringside.

Premier League’s big results of matchday 2

Aug 23 2021 Share

This weekend saw most matches in Premier League’s day 2 occur. It was another exciting matchday as new Tottenham Hotspurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo went back to old club Wolves to steal 3 points from them while two young teams, Crystal Palace and Brentford, battled out a 0-0 stalemate. There were many other big games this weekend.

Manchester City 5-0 Norwich City

Manchester City decided to make amends from their 1st game loss to Spurs by convincingly beating newly promoted team Norwich City 5 -0. The Citizens were brilliant in attack but also in defence, not even conceding a shot on target albeit a goal.

City’s opening goal was a lucky own goal from Norwich’s experienced keeper Tim Krul in the 7th minute. New signing Jack Grealish scored his first goal for the club in the 22nd minute. The goal was certainly not intended, with even pundit Tim Sherwood stating the goal as “The worst goal he’s ever going to score”. Throughout the game Norwich didn’t really fight back.

Manchester City continued their dominance in the second half in the 64th minute when French center back Aymeric Laporte scored from a rebounded corner. Only 6 minutes later did Raheem Sterling slot in a well worked goal to make it 4-0. The game ended when Portuguese center back Ruben Dias coolly chipped it over the Norwich defenders to Riyad Mahrez who scored to end the game at 5-0.

Arsenal 0-2 Chelsea

The London derby also took place over the weekend. Arsenal came off a horrible previous match where they lost 2-0 against newly promoted Brentford. The Gunners were hoping for a good result in their first game home in front of their fans, against rivals Chelsea. That wasn’t the case as Chelsea, with the help of new signing Romelu Lukaku, beat their fellow Londoners 2-0.

Lukaku had to wait only 16 minutes to score his first goal for the Blues. The play started with the Belgian’s back to a defender but ended up with him easily scoring a tap-in. Chelsea continued to dominate the game, when in the 35th minute marauding right wingback Reese James finished a lovely goal in the top left corner.

The 2 goals in the first half clearly demotivated the Arsenal players as they did nothing of significance in the second half. The game ended in a  deserved 2-0 win for Chelsea. After the game, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta stated that he had 9 unavailable player at his disposal, including star players Alexandre Lacazatte and Pierre Emerick Aubamayeng and new signing Ben White. That means two losses from two for the Gunners and unfortunately it gets worse from there as they are set to face champions Manchester City next weekend.

This weekend also saw Southampton surprisingly draw to Manchester United, Liverpool beat Burnley 2-0 and Danny Ings score an incredible bicycle kick to give Aston Villa all three points over Newcastle. Everton also drew 2-2 against Leeds in what was a fascinating battle between two experienced managers in Rafa Benitez and Marcelo Bielsa.

The Premier League is officially up and running and we are loving it.
