Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Welfare, Alicia Bugeja Said, visited the Fish Market to see the progress of the infrastructural works underway, including the installation of two new ice machines which will help improve the quality and preservation of fresh fish.
Parliamentary Secretary emphasised that this investment continues to enhance the operation of the Fish Market. “The installation of the ice machines is another example of how we are directly addressing the needs of fishermen. This Government is strengthening the facility’s capacity to provide a better, more efficient and sustainable service.”
During the visit, the Parliamentary Secretary also viewed the ongoing works at the Fisheries Innovation Hub, which is being developed with a total investment of €5 million and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The same hub will host the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
“The Government remains committed to continuing to invest in infrastructure and innovation to ensure a healthy future for this sector, which is crucial to our country’s economy,” said the Parliamentary Secretary, while thanking Chief Executive Brian Vella and the staff as well as the fishermen for their ongoing cooperation, stressing that the Fish Market remains a key element in the Maltese fishing value chain.
