Cheques totaling over €4 million, issued by the government last May under the tax refund scheme, remain uncashed, according to Finance Minister Clyde Caruana.
Responding to a parliamentary question from Nationalist MP Jerome Caruana Cilia, Caruana explained that the uncashed cheques are part of a procedure started in 2018 to annually compensate workers, with the highest compensation given to the lowest earners.
He noted that 38,267 cheques, valued at €4,039,320, had not been cashed.
