€3 million invested into local stadium which host Special Olympics games in May

On Thursday, Minister for Education and Sport Clifton Grima took to Facebook to share that a whopping €3 million will be invested into Matthew Micallef St John stadium, which stadium will welcome a number of international Special Olympic Games in May.

Grima reported that the investment included the building of a brand new central stand and the improvement of facilities to an adequate level such as the restoration of all buildings and the provision of new office spaces for Athletics Malta officials. A ceiling for the warm-up track will provide shelter from any kind of weather, allowing athletes to use the track all year round.

The minister stated that such an investment allows Malta to welcome further sport tourism and when the project is finished, the stands will be able to welcome 3,000 spectators at once.

Paulina Dembska memorial statue proposed by animal rights NGO; will continue to look after stray cats

After the tragic murder of 29-year-old Paulina Dembska, animal rights NGO Real Animal Rights Foundation (RAR Malta) has stated that they will continue looking after the stray cats and also proposed the building of a memorial statue in Sliema’s Independence Gardens.

Dembska would frequently be seen feeding the cats on a regular basis, one of the multiple acts of kindness and love towards the stray cat community that RAR Malta would like to immortalise. The organisation’s main aim is to ‘improve the quality of life of animals in Malta by raising awareness & educating the public’ whilst also providing abandoned animals a home.

In a Facebook post, the foundation appealed for fundraising for the stray cats at Sliema’s Independence Gardens through SMS, BOV Bank Transfer or Paypal whilst also asking for the sponsorship of the memorial statue in her likeness.

Boris Johnson under immense pressure following lockdown party revelation

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s political future is currently in major risk after he left the country enraged in light of the recent ‘bring your own booze’ lockdown party revelations.

Johnson’s fellow Conservatives clamped down on the Prime Minister’s actions and reactions after he was forced to apologise for his wrongdoings. Not only was the PM’s apology ill-received, but his actions sent the country into a frenzy after they were forced to stick to strict COVID-19 measures, disallowing them from visiting sick or dying loved ones.

Johnson urged the public to await inquiry findings, with some cabinet members supporting him after his apology while others such as finance minister and potential successor Rishi Sunak remained relatively tepid in their support of Johnson. Scotland Conservatives leader Douglas Ross called for Johnson’s resignation while Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis labelled the PM’s apology as “very, very sincere.”

It’s the silence that should worry Boris Johnson after that #PMQs. The silence behind him on the Conservative benches and in the corridors as they left.

That wasn’t an apology. It was the most shameful performance by a Prime Minister in the House of Commons in living memory.

The country’s political crisis looks like it will not come into resolve anytime soon as it remains divided over the actions of a number of its key political figures including Johnson himself while many were able to say their goodbyes to dying relatives as a result of following the country’s COVID-19 protocol.
