A total of 36 Maltese film producers will benefit from €2 million in funding through the Screen Support Scheme, the Arts Council Malta announced this week.
The scheme is aimed at strengthening key areas within the local film sector, supporting projects at various stages of development, from scriptwriting to production, with a focus on creativity, quality, and cultural value.
Now in its second year, the scheme marks a doubling of last year’s €1 million investment, which was the first time Maltese film producers received such targeted support.
Minister for Culture, Owen Bonnici, said the increased funding demonstrates the government’s commitment to building a sustainable and recognised local film industry.
“This is not a one-time measure, but part of a long-term plan to strengthen the entire audiovisual ecosystem,” he said.
Arts Council Malta Executive Chairman Luke Dalli noted the strong interest in the scheme, reflecting growing talent and enthusiasm in the sector.
He explained that beyond financial aid, the programme also provides mentoring, professional development, and collaboration tools.
The Council has also launched a sixth funding strand focused on the promotion of recently completed audiovisual works, open until 18 November 2025 or until the fund is fully allocated.
