Dead turtle washes up at Balluta Bay

Dead turtle washes up at Balluta Bay
Jun 1 2021 Share

A loggerhead turtle was found washed ashore and dead on the Balluta Bay beach on Tuesday morning. The cause of death is said to be an ingested fishing hook and line, as stated by environmental NGO Nature Trust member Vince Attard. This is one of the most common causes of death for turtles as the sea creatures fall for the bait and ingest the hook attached to the fishing line. Attempting to pull out the hook may cause internal bleeding or other complications.

Cyrus Engerer commented on the situation by stating that he is incredibly distraught that this had to happen because of pollution caused by people. He concluded by stating that through more consideration and thought, pointless deaths such as these can be avoided.
