€100 vouchers for elderly tourists visiting Malta between October & December

Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo has announced a new scheme for elderly tourists travelling to Malta over a long period of time, where travellers aged 65 and over may receive €100 vouchers at a minimum of 15 nights.

The voucher scheme applies for the period between 18th October and 19th December to incentivise tourism beyond peak season and vouchers can be used on local establishments such as restaurants.

The vouchers will be distributed by the tourism operators and handed to tourists on arrival and are expected to generate five million euro towards the local economy from an investment on one million.

Local writer, presenter and host Jon Mallia took to Facebook on Thursday to express his concern with the current state of Malta at the moment as well as the population’s frame of mind.

Mallia started his rant with the phrase ‘Gibtu kull m’hawn frak’, lamenting that Malta’s planning framework and passive attitude towards the increasing overdevelopment is damaging the country and its population.

Mallia also alluded to the late Miriam Pace, Panama, Electrogas and the multiple other tragedies that the population had to endure, concluding with a somber note that he is disappointed in the Maltese, for they are ‘wasted potential’ in the lack of effort made in the face of such issues.

The Malta International Airport has been awarded a prestigious 5-star rating from leading transport organisation Skytrax for its health & safety efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The MIA joins eight other airports from around the world who have received the highest classification for evaluation processes, protocols and airport facilities as well as conformity with the World Health Organisation’s guidelines.

Man arrested after stabbing 23-year-old to death in Marsa

The Malta Police Force has arrested an individual after a homicide which happened on Thursday evening, where a 23-year-old from Ghana was stabbed to death in Marsa.

The police were informed of the incident in Triq it-Tiġrija at around 10pm, where an argument between two people reportedly took place, leaving one injured ‘in a pool a blood’.

Rapid Intervention Unit officials and the Hamrun District Police were also called to the scene along with a medical team.

The Police Homicide Squad within the Major Crimes Unit found the alleged aggressor after a description of the man was given.
