Drunk burglar gets caught trying to rob policeman’s house

Bashir Abdulahi Ahmed, an attempted burglar, was arrested by a policeman after he was caught drunkenly trying to rob his house in St. Julian’s.

The burglar was arrested immediately, eventually being accused of attempted aggravated theft, violent resist of arrest, attacking an official as well as being publicly drunk and disorderly, amongst other charges.

Malta has registered 111 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,951 swab tests, while 53 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

Today’s cases are still being investigated. From yesterday’s cases; 14 cases were family members of previously known cases, 10 cases were contact of positive work colleagues, 13 cases were direct contacts with other positive cases, 1 case was from social gatherings with other positive cases and 2 cases were imported.

To date, Malta has registered 5,137 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 3.384 have recovered, 53 died and 1,704 are still active.

Spain exceeds 1,000,000 cases

Spain is the first European country to exceed 1 million COVID-19 cases cases with a death toll of 34,366. 

Despite the imposed lockdown and preventive measures taken during the year, the infection rate maintains an approximate 10,000 cases per day.

74-year-old woman dies in house fire in Rabat

A 74-year-old woman died earlier this morning after her house in Rabat took fire.

Police have confirmed that the woman was found dead on sight at around 6.45am.

Investigations are currently underway as magistrate Victor Axiaq leads the inquiry.
