Yesterday, on World Mental Health Day, Dr Lydia Abela, the wife of the Prime Minister, hosted an event aimed at raising awareness for mental health. The gathering brought together Members of Parliament from both sides of the House, along with individuals from various walks of life, to highlight the importance of unity in tackling mental health issues. Dr Abela delivered a clear message that, when it comes to mental health, there are no political colours or divisions; these challenges must be addressed collectively, as one team.
During the event, Dr Abela announced a significant initiative in collaboration with President Emeritus Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca to enhance the services of psychotherapists in schools. This initiative aims to provide better support to young people facing mental health challenges, emphasising the need to address such issues from an early age.

In a social media post, Dr Abela shared her thoughts: “Today, I invited Members of Parliament from both sides of the House to discuss mental health and the challenges faced by public figures. Mental health can affect ANYONE. At any TIME. At any AGE. So, let us unite and fight this one together.” The event served as a call to action, encouraging society to come together in addressing mental health and ensuring that support is accessible to all who need it.
