Ex-US President Donald Trump is being sued by a civil rights organisation ‘Chinese American Civil Rights Coalition (CACRC)’ for calling COVID-19 the ‘China Flu’. Trump made several remarks when the outbreak began, calling the pandemic things like ‘China virus’, ‘Wuhan virus’, and even ‘Kung Flu’. The civil rights coalition stated that these statements resulted in several instances of harm on Chinese Americans and other Asian Americans as many associated them with the pandemic’s damages.

The former president is being sued for ‘defamation and infliction of emotional distress’. The group is seeking $1 for every Asian American and Pacific Islander living in the USA, equating to a whopping $22.9 million. Should the suit be successful, a museum will be established showcasing Asian American history and contribution to the States.

Following a massive uproar due to the news that the entertainment sector being ruled out for summer 2021, PN leader Bernard Grech took to Facebook to comment on the situation. The Opposition Leader stated that the entertainment, art and culture sector is essential for the full development of a person and the livelihood of many. He pointed out that in the same way that other sectors have a plan or solution as to how to cope with the pandemic, the cultural sector should be treated in the same fashion.

Grech asked why the government did not issue a concrete plan as to how activities can restart in a secure manner in Malta. In concluding, Grech added that this is a case in which the good suffer because of the misconduct of others. Numerous artists have spoken up, from performers to DJs, to ask why the decision was taken and whether it is possible to change the situation towards a better plan.
