Pawlu Xuereb Truck Driver Who Tragically Lost His Life This Morning

Pawlu Xuereb, aged 67, is the man who tragically lost his life this morning in Ħal Far after becoming trapped between two lorries.

The 67-year-old man from Ħaż-Żebbuġ lost his life this morning in an incident that occurred in the industrial area within the limits of Ħal Far.

When the incident happened, emergency services were called after police were informed that a person had been injured after being struck by a vehicle.

Police attended the scene immediately and, from a preliminary investigation, it emerged that a lorry, which the victim had been operating, moved forward on its own for some reason, resulting in the man being caught between it and another stationary lorry.

A medical team from Mater Dei Hospital arrived promptly at the scene, but sadly the man was declared dead at the scene.

Five Hospitalised After Car Collision In St Paul’s Bay

A traffic accident on Friday evening left five individuals, including a toddler, hospitalised following a two-car collision in St Paul’s Bay.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30pm at the junction of Triq il-Parroċċa and Triq Paredes. Police confirmed that a Seat Leon, driven by a 22 year old woman from Msida, and a Mercedes C180 were involved in the crash.

The woman behind the wheel of the Seat sustained grievous injuries. She was accompanied by a 21 year old man from St Paul’s Bay and a two year old boy, both of whom suffered minor injuries.

The Mercedes was carrying two male occupants. While the driver’s condition was not disclosed, his passenger was reported to be grievously injured.

All five individuals were take to Mater Dei Hospital for medical treatment. Emergency services, including the Civil Protection Department, responded to the scene to assist and ensure the road was made safe for traffic following the collision.

Police investigations are still ongoing.

President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono led national commemorations on Saturday morning to honour the victims of the 7 June 1919 uprising.

On that day, riots broke out in Valletta, the capital of Malta, as Maltese civilians protested against the British administration’s handling of post-war hardships.

In a solemn ceremony held at St George’s Square in Valletta, President Spiteri Debono laid a wreath at the Sette Giugno Monument, paying tribute to the four Maltese civilians who lost their lives during the protests over food shortages and colonial rule.

The event formed part of the official remembrance ceremonies organised by Festivals Malta. Attendees included government officials, dignitaries, and members of the armed forces, who gathered to reflect on the events of 1919 and their lasting impact on Maltese national identity.
