Doctors warn of night-time Omicron symptoms
Dec 22 2021 Share

Doctors have warned against a night-time symptom which Omicron seems to be inflicting but people do not know about.

Dr Amir Khan has said that we need to keep on top of symptoms, revealing that South African doctors have found patients infected with the variant experiencing night sweats when they sleep. The usual symptoms are hight temperatures, continuous coughing and/or a loss of taste or smell.

The doctor explained that the symptoms that are coming out of South Africa – where the strains was first found – are showing five new symptoms.

These are scratchy throats, mild muscle aches, extreme fatigue, a dry cough and night sweats. These are the kind of sweats which prompt patients to get up and change clothes.

He also called for the newer symptoms to be added to the NHS website to help make infections easier to detect. There are currently no registered cases of the Omicron variant in Malta, but authorities are stating that it will become the dominant strain by early next year.

After noting the need for another outlet in the South of Malta last year, Azzopardi Fisheries embarked on a journey to find a new shop which would be able to cater for their clients in the South of Malta.

That’s why their shop in Vjal Kottoner, Fgura is so close to the hearts of residents and patrons from the area and the Fgura outlet in particular is quite a different concept from other fish shops. Along with the extensive selection of fresh fish, live shellfish, frozen products, dry goods and gourmet products, customers may also find in-house chefs who are there on hand to give any help or advice with anything the customers might need.

All those who test positive for COVID must quarantine authorities warn
Dec 22 2021 Share

A reminder has been issued by the Public Health Authorities stating that all those who have been registered as positive for COVID-19 should remain in isolation from the very moment the result is received.

Those resulting positive are obliged 14 days of quarantine, with this applying to all those who abide in the same residence. Those positive must also compile a list of contacts that were in close contact with prior to the last two days when they proved positive or when they developed symptoms. This is to ensure that further spread is avoided.

A perfectly preserved baby dinosaur fossil was discovered curled up inside an egg

A perfectly preserved baby dinosaur fossil was discovered curled up inside an egg
Dec 22 2021 Share

A unique fossil of a baby dinosaur curled up in its egg is shedding more light on the evolutionary links between birds and dinosaurs.

The fossil, some 70-million-years-old, preserves the embryonic skeleton of an oviraptorid dinosaur. You don’t have to remember that name though, as it has been nicknamed Baby Yingliang after the name of the Chinese museum which house it.

This is a very lucky find considering that baby dinosaur bones are very small and fragile and are very rarely preserved as fossils. Darla Zelenitsky, associate professor in the geoscience department at the University of Calgary in Canada, said that she has been working on dinosaur eggs for 25 years and has yet to see anything like it.

Up until now, little has been known of what goes on inside a dinosaur egg prior to hatching as there are so few embryonic skeletons.

The egg is around 17 centimetres long, with the dinosaur estimated to be 27 centimetres long from head to tail. Researchers believe that had it grown to adulthood, it would have been two to three meters long.

Researchers discovered that the dinosaur as others of his kind were changing poses in the egg similar to baby birds. All birds evolved directly from two-legged dinosaurs such as this, with some behaviours carrying on to today.
