With five locations across Malta, Donut Factor offers daily made doughnuts with all kinds of toppings to make you drool. From Raspberry jam, chocolate and gummy berries to white chocolate with marshmallow, this place is the definition of doughnut goals.

Shakes n Bakes

An all-time go-to spot for all that is sweet, Shakes n Bakes has always been already to satisfy our sweet tooth and with all the creative concoctions that this spot has offered over the years, we always keep coming back for more. On top of that, pairing a milkshake with your favourite doughnut always hits the spot just right.

Donut Empire

It’s all in the name. A relatively new face to the local doughnut game, Doughnut Empire is open 24/7 to satisfy any sweet-lover’s appetite. Their glowing pink neon sign is only as vibrant as their gorgeous, gooey doughnuts and when you’re in the mood for something more than your everyday doughnut, this is the place to go.

Ta’ Doughnuts, Qormi

An all-time classic, there’s not really much to say about Qormi’s Ta’ Doughnuts. Offering what is considered by many to be the best doughnuts on the island, along a number of other mouth-watering delights, this doughnut spot is loved by locals and tourists from all walks of life and we can’t even blame them. P.S. If you want to switch up your usual order and get something off-kilter, the pistachio doughnut is absolutely out of this world.

Airline Virgin Atlantic to allow cabin crew to show their tattoos

In a historic move, Virgin Atlantic will be allowing its cabin crew to display tattoos, making it the first UK airline and leading worldwide carrier, to do so.

The airline is set to announce the change in policy to staff a month after it launched a branding campaign centered around individuality. The airline also aims to recruit more people into the sector following the pandemic’s impact.

As with most other airlines, visible tattoos were banned by Virgin Airlines. Only staff who could conceal any ink could work under their uniform. Virgin Atlantic’s chief people officer Estelle Hollingsworth said that the airline wants everyone to be themselves and know they belong.

However, facial and neck tattoos will remain banned for flight attendants for now. But this rule too is set for a haul later down the line. Tattoos involving swearing, nudity, violence, drugs, alcohol and prison-style love/hate knuckle tattoos will remain banned.

This news room reached out to local airline AirMalta to see whether this would be something they would take on at any point in their future.

A spokesperson told this newsroom that Air Malta has a policy and guidebook in place for all uniformed staff members.On tattoos, the current policy states that visible tattoos or visible body piercing are not permitted. If, when wearing a short sleeve shirt, tattoos are still visible, a long-sleeved shirt must be worn.

Animal Commissioner sparks support and outrage with cow milk post

Posting on World Milk Day, the Office of the Commissioner for Animal Welfare posted a photo of cow’s udders producing milk for the industry.

The caption sparked considerable outrage, but also support, due to the message the animal commissioner wished to argue for. The post outlined how, like humans, cows do not produce milk unless they have just given birth.

The post highlighted how cows are forcefully and artificially impregnated every year to keep them producing milk. Their young are also immediately separated from their mother and fed formula whilst the mother continues to produce milk.

The milk however is taken away and sold to consumers. ‘This cycle is repeated every year and only ends with the cow’s slaughter’ the post ended, with hashtags urging people to go plant based and cruelty free.

The post caught the attention of many, with members of the industry calling the claims ‘sensational’ and ‘disappointment.’ The post was accused of intentionally misleading the public, with some saying that local farmers under employment did everything to keep the conditions of the cows healthy and humane.

On the other side of the coin, many commended the post for laying out the truth behind the industry’s practices. A topic which has very often seen polarising views, the post re-ignited the issue on a national scale.
