David Wellman Identified As 23 Year Old Tarxien Victim

David Wellman has been identified as the 23 year old victim who died yesterday after suffering head injuries whilst working in his own private residence in Ħal Tarxien.

Yesterday afternoon, at around 1700hrs, police were informed that an incident had taken place in Triq il-Witja, Ħal Tarxien.

Police convened immediately on site and preliminary investigations showed that a 23 year old man, resident of Ħal Tarxien, was conducting work in his private property when he suffered head injuries.

The victim was given medical attention by a medical team and Civil Protection members and was taken to Mater Dei Hospital. Unfortunately, he was later certified as deceased.

Rest in peace.

Maltese ultra athlete Fabio Spiteri will be undertaking his next big challenge in the name of his late friend and inspiration Jake Vella.

As he prepares to take on Ultra Triathlon Italy, Fabio took to social media to share a photo of his bike, which has been equipped with an image of Jake Vella.

‘Will have around 15-16 hours of swimming, then we’ll ride together for 5 days my friend’, wrote Spiteri.

‘Fly high and proud Jake Vella’, concluded Fabio.

Fabio and Jake have been friends for a long while, continuously sharing support for each other whenever they faced serious challenges in their respective lives.

Maltese para swimmer Maja Theuma made her debut at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris on Thursday, competing in the 50 metres freestyle S6 heats. Despite finishing last in her heat with a time of 1:13.10, Theuma shared an emotional reflection on her journey, emphasizing the significance of the experience beyond the race’s outcome.

“Years of early mornings, long afternoon sessions, sacrifices, and tears have brought me to this stage,” Theuma said, acknowledging the immense dedication and resilience required to reach the Paralympics. While the result was not what she had hoped for, Theuma expressed pride in her journey, stating that being a Paralympian is about more than winning medals.

She thanked her family and friends for their unwavering support, adding, “I pushed my limits and started my impossible.”

Her coaches, Edward Caruana Dingli and Tim Hartley, praised Theuma’s perseverance and her role in raising awareness for para swimming in Malta. They hailed her as a role model for young athletes with disabilities.

Though Theuma’s Paralympic race is complete, her efforts mark a significant step for Malta in the Paralympic movement, inspiring the next generation of Maltese athletes.
