Former drug addict Miguel Mifsud, known as “the sober runner,” completed a 100km run on Sunday to support Caritas and express gratitude for their role in his recovery.

Starting at Dingli cliffs in the early hours of 4am, Mifsud ran through various locations in Malta including Mġarr, Għajn Tuffieħa, Xemxija, Ta’ Xbiex, Valletta, Senglea, Marsascala, and Marsaxlokk, finishing at Caritas Malta’s San Blas centre in Żebbuġ.

During the run, Mifsud made stops for nourishment, and after just over eleven hours, he crossed the finish line surrounded by family, friends, and supporters. Expressing his gratitude, Mifsud thanked his family, wife, children, Caritas staff, and his Team Fabio teammates for their unwavering support throughout his journey.

Mifsud also acknowledged his sponsors, noting ‘Jesus Christ’ as his biggest sponsor. Reflecting on his past addiction, he encouraged others not to fear seeking help, emphasizing that support is always available.

Despite having a promising athletic career, Mifsud battled drug addiction for around 20 years before finding recovery through Caritas San Blas. The “Giving Back Run” aimed to raise funds for Caritas and promote a drug-free life.

Throughout his run, Mifsud was joined by fellow runners and cyclists, receiving cheers and applause from passersby.

Donations for his cause can be made through the BOV mobile app or via Revolut, with details provided for the BOV Giving Back Run account.
