The Wildlife Rescue Team Malta had a unique rescue a few days ago after a hedgehog got stuck in the Laparelli lift in Valletta at around 1pm.

A volunteer went on site to assess the situation, with the team trying to figure out who possessed the key to open the lift.

A police officer, PC155, joined in the rescue by helping them access the lift. ‘The hedgehog has now been taken for observation and hydration, and hopefully will soon be able to return to the wild.’

‘Our volunteers have wildlife handling permits and training as well as equipment in order to rescue these creatures. If you spot any of the wild animals that we rescue injured or in danger, please call the Wildlife Rescue Team on 99999505.’

The animals rescued by the team are protected species and it is illegal to keep them as pets.
