European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the step “a great achievement for Croatia” and a symbol of the country’s deep-rooted attachment to the EU.
Locals and foreigners will still be able to use Croatian Kuna over the next two weeks as a transitional period comes into effect.
In addition to joining the Eurozone, Croatia also became the first country to join the Schengen zone in 11 years, a European area where people may travel without the need for border control.
