A giant alien-like creature was recently spotted off the coast of the Maltese Islands when diver Leli Scerri photographed a Praya dubia, or Giant Siphonophore, at depths of 20-30 meters.

One of the largest living creatures on Earth, Praya dubia can reach lengths greater than a blue whale, although it remains as thin as a broomstick.

This stunning organism attracts prey with bioluminescent light and uses toxic tentacles to paralyse and kill smaller creatures.

Praya dubia has no known predators, making it a true apex predator of the deep sea.
