COVID-19 vaccine passport to enter restaurants & more in France as of September 30

France has just approved a bill that calls for the presentation of vaccine passes for restaurants, public venues and domestic travel such as flights and train rides.

The mandatory vaccination pass for access to certain venues & services will come into effect as of September 30 and will apply to anyone aged 12 and over.

Ahead of the bill’s approval, over 160,000 across France protested against the imposing of such measures, calling the situation a “sanitary dictatorship” and arguing the violation of citizens’ individual freedom.

On the other side of the coin, French President Emmanuel had stated that “the nation owes a response to those most affected by the crisis”, remaining committed to his call for widespread vaccination of the French nation.

127 COVID-19 cases registered today with 109 recoveries

Malta has registered 127 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,504 swab tests, while 109 patients have recovered. No deaths were registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Saturday 24th July 2021, 743,712 vaccine doses were administered of which 392,994 were 1st doses. 369,441 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 33,668 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 30,557 have recovered, 421 died and 2,294 are still active.

Mater Dei Hospital is currently treating a total of 34 COVID-19 positive patients, one of whom is in the ITU.

Police Officers Union calls for specialised Paceville squad to patrol area

The Police Officers Union has suggested that Paceville should have its own specialised team of officers to patrol the busy area, highlighting that such a unit should be specially trained and familiarised with legislation concerning the area.

The POU stated that “it is not right to continue the system as it is” and also suggested that, along with the specialised training, the unit should have an adequate allowance.

Paceville has repeatedly been registered as on of the areas with the highest nationwide crime rates together with other touristic areas like Saint Paul’s Bay, Sliema and Valletta.

St. Julian’s to get major face-lift going into 2024

The Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo has announced that an investment of €5.5 million will be going into to the regeneration of Spinola Square & Paceville Road in St. Julian’s.

Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Tourism Ronald Mizzi stated that this is part of a holistic plan to breathe new life into the Paceville area, with works expected to finish by the end of 2024.

Based on visuals shared by the Ministry’s page, the area will be turned into a publicly-available open space, with Mizzi revealing that Palazzo Spinola will serve as a gorgeous backdrop to the garden, going on to highlight his wishes that the palace is regenerated into a multipurpose hub for the community.
