COVID-19 Public Helpline currently down due to technical difficulties

The Health Authorities have issued a notice that their 111 Public Health Helpline is currently down as they are ‘experiencing technical difficulties’.

The 111 helpline is used mainly to book COVID-19 swab tests and inquire regarding any COVID-related issues and the Health Authorities are doing their utmost to fix the situation as soon as possible.

The Government’s 145 COVID-19 vaccine helpline is also unavailable at the moment due to being overwhelmed with calls.

The Queen’s Gambit wins Best Limited Series at 2021 Golden Globes

Along with winning the Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, lead actress of the same series Anya Taylor-Joy received the award for Best Actress in a Limited Series. The Queen’s Gambit was an immediate hit with brilliant performances as it recounted the life of Beth Harmon, an orphaned chess prodigy in the 1960s US.

The Netflix series is itself based on a previous 1983 novel of the same name written by Walter Tevis. Beth Harmon navigates the male-dominated chess profession whilst also investigating the effects of drugs and alcohol. The 78th Golden Globe also saw victories for Sacha Baron Cohen for Actor in a motion picture and Pixar’s Soul for best original score and best animated film.

175 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 216 recoveries

67 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 323 recoveries

Malta has registered 175 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,871 swab tests, while 216 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Sunday 28th February 2021, 79,624 vaccine doses were administered of which 28,048 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 22,657 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 19,663 have recovered, 316 died and 2,678 are still active.

G.F. Abela Junior College student wins global art prize

Following the submission of more than 600 entries contending for the Global Students Prize, the Sovereign Art Foundation has found its winner in G.F. Abela Junior College student Podorvana with her piece ‘The Little Joys’.

Paraskovia secured first place from the 140 finalists, landing an £800 prize for herself and £2000 for the G.F. Abela Junior College in a feat which highlights the level of artistic talent in Malta and Gozo.

Stephen Griffiths, Managing Director of Sovereign Trust (Malta) Limited highlighted how such an initiative emphases the importance of art in schools and how creativity must be encourage across the board.
