According to a Reuters tally, the latest global resurgence of COVID-19 infections along with variants has shot the global death toll up to 3 million. Health officials worldwide blame the more resistant and infectious variants of the virus detected first in the UK and South Africa, with the death toll peaking in Brazil and India. Even though it took more than one year for the global death toll to reach 2 million, the other 1 million were added in approximately 3 months.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) acknowledged that Brazil, which accounts for one in every four deaths worldwide each day, has an immensely overwhelmed healthcare system. The European regionβs 51 countries has totalled the highest number of deaths at nearly 1.1 million.
