Could parties make a return in 2021?

The Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association has called upon the relevant authorities for an exit plan covering individuals who are struggling in the current arts and entertainment scene.

The lobby called for a 12-month exit plan which evaluates different scenarios while maintaining the protocols issued by the health authorities.

Amongst other ideas, MEIA considers the possibility of the re-entry of small scale events with a domestic vaccine certificate to ensure health and safety for attendees.

MEIA mentions that other countries have successfully introduced measures and states that the local scene requires flexibility to ensure artists and entertainers can restart their professions while sticking to health guidelines.

199 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 106 recoveries

Malta has registered 199 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,100 swab tests, while 106 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Friday 19th February 2021, 62,059 vaccine doses were administered of which 19,828 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 20,762 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 17,933 have recovered, 303 died and 2,526 are still active.

Police take three persons to court for fake COVID-19 tests

At 11am on Saturday, The Malta Police Force took multiple individuals to court to appear in front of police Magistrate Dr Yana Micallef Stafrace LL.D.

Three people were accused related to fake COVID-19 tests while another man is accused of theft.

“It’s a mess how things are moving” – MUMN President on vaccinations

In an exclusive interview with The Malta Independent, Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) President Paul Pace revealed that nurses are only being given 5 or 6 vaccine doses per clinic per day, as opposed to the 80 doses they were promised.

Pace said that the inoculation programme is moving very slowly, where other countries are well into their programmes with the general public while Malta has just started the over-80 group.

Pace criticised the fact that nurses are being left idle after leaving their prior jobs and if clinics are not provided more vaccines by Wednesday, the MUMN will issue a directive for all nurses to go back to their original stations.
