Edera’s Mum Speaks Out After Love Island Malta Elimination

Edera's Mum Speaks Out After Love Island Malta Elimination
Jun 6 2025 Share

Taking to social media following her daughter’s elimination from the Love Island Malta villa, Edera’s mum, Marvic, issued a statement encouraging for more respect and mindfulness when commenting about other people.

‘Edera is a woman with a genuine heart and an open mind’, wrote her mother. ‘She speaks from the heart and with sincerity. For this, instead of finding support or understanding, she ended up in the middle of unreasonable attacks and insults that no one deserves.’

‘Whoever is speaking against Edera, have you ever thought what pain you are causing? Have you ever felt the fear of a parent who sees their child attacked without reason?’

‘Edera, like every other youth, deserves to be appreciated for her values, not hurt for speaking with sincerity. Attacks like these do not take anything away from Edera but only reveal the intolerance of those who commit them.’

Edera herself took to social media, saying:

‘Was it perfect? Definitely not. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. Between the chaos, the laughs, and the late-night chats, it was one hell of a ride.’

‘To everyone who cheered me on thank you, you’re real . To those who had a few things to say (good or savage) I’ve seen it all, and I respect it. Everyone’s got an opinion, and that’s what makes life interesting.’

Maltese Preferred Language, But Youth Choosing English More

Maltese Preferred Language, But Youth Choosing English More
Jun 6 2025 Share

A new State of the Nation survey has revealed what language people in Malta really consider their main one – and the results might surprise you.

A big 74.5% of people said Maltese is their primary language, showing the national tongue is still strong. But here comes the twist – more people than ever are now saying they have two main languages.

Over 1 in 5 people (21.1%) said they see both Maltese and English as their primary languages. And guess who is leading this change? Young people.

A massive 37.2% of those aged 16 to 25 said they use both English and Maltese as their main languages. This shows a new generation that is growing up fully bilingual.

Only 4.3% of people said English alone is their main language. So while Maltese still leads, English is becoming a bigger part of daily life, especially for younger people.

Experts say this shift could be because of social media, streaming, and school systems that use both languages more than ever before.

So what does this mean for the future of Maltese? Is it at risk, or are we just becoming more flexible with how we speak? One thing is sure – the language landscape in Malta is changing fast.
