Construction Worker Dies in Żabbar Site Fall

A 40-year-old man from Pakistan sadly died yesterday evening after falling from a height of about five storeys at a construction site in Triq il-Marlocc, Żabbar.

The tragedy occurred at around 6pm on Triq Salvu Astarita. Emergency services, including medical staff and Civil Protection officers, arrived swiftly but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Juventus Academy Malta will host a youth development conference on the 10th of May, featuring Marco Forneris, Head Coach of the global Juventus Academy network and Alessandro Cecilia, psychologist for Juventus’ U15 and U17 teams.

The event will focus on key areas of player development, including mental training, nutrition, and the holistic Juventus methodology. 

Dr Dorianne Caruana Bonnici, an MCAST lecturer and football nutrition expert, will also speak on how diet impacts performance and recovery.

The visit will also include a youth football festival, where Forneris and Cecilia will present awards and engage with young players and coaches.

Mater Dei Emergency Department Bike Ride In Aid Of Puttinu Cares Set For May 30

The Mater Dei Emergency Department is gearing up for a special initiative with the upcoming Bike Ride in Aid of Puttinu Cares, set to take place on 30th May 2025.

This event brings together biking enthusiasts and members of the community for a noble cause – supporting children and families affected by cancer.

Participants are invited to gather at 19:30 at the Oncology Parking Area near the Helipad, with the ride officially starting at 20:30.

The event aims to raise funds for Puttinu Cares, a beloved local charity that offers medical and emotional support to cancer patients and their families.

Donations can be made via Revolut (79899695) or BOV Mobile Banking (+356 79499423) using the reference “Emergency Bike Ride.” Participants can register for the ride through a dedicated Google form.

This event promises not only an exhilarating evening ride but also a chance to make a real difference. Ride for Puttinu. Ride for a reason.

The 2025 edition of the ERA Awards has been announced, held under the patronage of President Myriam Spiteri Debono, and will feature four new categories, further recognising public entities, voluntary organisations, the private sector and educational institutions, making a difference in environmental protection.

The new award categories will complement the existing Buonamico and Special Recognition Awards, following a rebranding that aims to elevate the ERA Awards as a leading annual event celebrating environmental leadership.

The four new award categories are:

  • Corporate Award for Environmental Innovation and Sustainability for private sector: For businesses implementing impactful green initiatives.
  • Environmental Stewardship Award for Voluntary Organisations: Celebrating community-based sustainability projects.
  • Green Public Leadership Award for public entities: Recognising public entities leading with eco-friendly practices.
  • Green School Scheme for Educational Institutions and Learning Programmes: Funding eco-projects in schools that promote hands-on environmental learning.
