An online publication which caters to finance news called FinanceBuzz will be paying someone $1,300 to watch up to 13 scary movies for research purposes. The company is doing this to see whether high budget scary movies deliver more scares to its audience than low budget films of the same genre. The job is called ‘Horror Movie Heart Rate Analysis’, calling for applicants to have their heart rate recorded as they watch 13 of the scariest movies ever produced. The candidate will be sent a Fitbit in order for FinanceBuzz to observe the data, with an additional $50 for any rental fees the candidate may incur.

The movies on the research list include some of the biggest names in Hollywood; Saw, Amityville Horror, both ‘A Quiet Place’ films, Candyman, Insidious, The Blair Witch Project, Sinister, Get Out, The Purge, Halloween (2018), Paranormal Activity and last but not least, Annabelle. The horror heart rate analyst will have between October 9th and October 18th to watch all of the movies and complete the assignment. With all candidates having to be over 18 years old, they must all be US residents. For our local horror film lovers who cannot participate, such a spooky binge watch could still be an interesting prospect given Halloween is coming up really soon!

A scorching two days to start the week for Malta

Sep 19 2021 Share

It seems as though the summer heat just won’t give up as Sunday 19th September and the following Monday are expected to receive some of the hottest weather so far. Temperatures are set to feel as hot as 39 degrees Celsius according to the Weather Page Malta, as very humid and blazing air from Northern Africa continues to persist across the central Mediterranean. Malta International Airport weather reports also point to a similar spell of heat which is set to feel like approximately 34 degrees Celsius for the end of the week and the start.

For those eager for some autumn and winter weather, the rest of the week is set to get cloudier and less hot up until at least Saturday. It seems as though the weather is giving Malta the very last opportunity for its beachgoers to bask in the sun and go for one last quick swim. The temperatures and confusing weather however could also be indicative of larger climate issues the entire world has been experiencing as of late. So even if you’re still enjoying this last bit of summer heat in denial of the cold seasons, keeping in mind the bigger picture and contributing to some green organization might also benefit you greatly.

Education should not be extended to 18 says Paulo Friere Institute

Sep 19 2021 Share

The Paolo Friere Institute issued a statement in regards to the maximum mandatory age when it comes to education in Malta. The institute highlighted how education should be one of quality as opposed to extending the required length of time a student has t attend school. This. the Institute highlighted, is so as to ensure that students do not lose their passion and interest for education early on life, as studying until the age of 18 might be a daunting task for many. It also spoke about how Malta did not reach the EU target which attempts to keep the amount of students who leave school early less than 10%.

Over the years, the Institute developed and issued programs for both kids of all ages and their older guardians to look at education through a more positive lens. apart from such programs, which involve things such as reading clubs, the institute highlighted five practices which could replace the extension of mandatory school age. These include: working with vulnerable citizens to see the benefit of education, infrastructural investments, , improving teacher’s quality of work, more practical subjects and a refocusing away from examinations and onto interests and student passions.

Higher teacher salaries and classroom AC’s pledged by PN

Sep 19 2021 Share

Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has pledged to improve and increase more regularly the starting salaries for teachers. The Nationalist Party has promised a radical overhaul should it be elected to government, with Grech stating that a generational leap as to how educators are viewed in society is needed. Holding a Q&A in Attard on Saturday, Grech highlighted how not only educator salaries should be higher upon starting out, but should increase more regularly over a period of time.

The Nationalist Party leader said that under his government, increases to teacher salaries in the public sector will be reflected in Church and private schools through direct assistance and tax credits. Grech also pledged for investment in school infrastructure. This, he said, is to adapt to rising temperatures and hit environmental targets. He vouched for schools becoming more energy efficient, air conditioned classrooms, and even allowing schools to be used comfortably during summer by the community. When it comes to students, better technological equipment and internet access should be granted.
