Maltese Leaders React To Pope Francis’ Heartbreaking Death

Apr 21 2025 Share

Maltese leaders such as Prime Minister Robert Abela, President Myriam Spiteri Debono, EU Parliament President Roberta Metsola and Leader of Opposition Bernard Grech have all reacted to the Pope’s tragic and unexpected death and wished their condolences,

Prime Minister Robert Abela described Pope Francis as a powerful advocate for peace and the most vulnerable in society. He highlighted the Pope’s emphasis on social issues, the significant reforms he led within the Roman Catholic Church, and also recalled the personal encounters his family had with him.

Leader of the Opposition Bernard Grech stated that the Pope was a champion of peace and humility and that his profound knowledge, humanity and love touched the hearts of millions around the world, including those Maltese.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola noted that the world lost a man who, through his compassion, love and courage, personified hope and that his contagious smile captured millions of people’s hearts across the globe.

Metsola went on to say that she will never forget their private conversation during her visit to the Vatican, last October.

In a statement, the President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono wrote that “Pope Francis will be remembered for his humility, the particular attention he gave during his term to the poor and marginalised, as well as his continuous work for international peace and reconciliation between peoples,”

Local Shares Vision Of Enhanced Maltese Roads And Public Transport

Apr 21 2025 Share

Local entrepreneur Glen Ciantar recently shared a series of AI-generated images on Facebook, offering a glimpse into his vision for the future of Triq Dun Karm in Birkirkara.

His concept centres on removing cars from Maltese streets and reimagining the road as a modern, multimodal transport corridor.

Commenting on the images, Ciantar explained that the proposed transformation would include dedicated tram lines, expanded pedestrian zones, safe bicycle lanes, extensive greenery, and more efficient bus routes. The aim is to reduce traffic congestion and promote sustainable mobility, shifting the focus away from car dependency.

It was noted by many that the proposed images would go hand in hand with the government’s national strategy unveiled under Malta Vision 2050, which heavily focused on the Government’s commitment to introduce a green mass transportation system to compliment the existing public transport and reduce cars and traffic on the road.
