Closing down? PV’s iconic Wembley Motors puts up ‘for sale’ stickers

Closing down? PV’s iconic Wembley Taxis puts up ‘for sale’ stickers

See if this resonates with you – you’re out with your friends, the hours are about to hit 4am, and you’re desperately looking for a cheap way home. And many remember the iconic cab outlet Wembley Motors.

The local brand has been serving the community for multiple generations, with the business trickling down multiple legacies through the years.

However, Wembley took quite a hit when modern cab companies such as Bolt, Bolt, eCabs and Uber, just to name a few, landed on the island.

The Paceville outlet donning ‘for sale’ stickers might mean that they have just taken the final blow. It is currently unknown if Wembley’s will be closing down for good or whether only the Paceville outlet will do so.

Malta takes over London cabs as the winter season rolls in

The UK Office of the Malta Tourism Authority is currently busy preparing for this year’s World Travel Market, which is one of the biggest tourism fairs in the world in London this November.

Whilst also focusing on an extensive marketing campaign, it aims at promoting Malta as a Winter destination to fall in line with the Tourism Strategy currently in place.

The campaign includes VisitMalta advertising on the iconic London Taxis and multiple adverts on selected lines and stations of the London Underground.

Each of these adverts will have dedicated QR-codes taking commuters to a special landing page on visitmalta.com with more information, booking links, and even a nice prize for a lucky winner.

These initiatives form part of a wider plan for 2022. A plan which included more Out of Home Advertising; TV and Radio advertising with special segments on ITV’s Good Morning Britain and Lorraine; as well as a full-sized hand-painted Mural in Shoreditch with a pop-up activation featuring Maltese Pastizzi and Wine.

Meanwhile, a good word from Manchester United Legend Wes Brown helped to seal Malta’s tourism status. Last but not least, a Magic Mirror installed at London Waterloo Station, tied to the premiere of Jurassic World Dominion got people’s attention.

Such initiatives are always coupled and further enhanced with online campaigns which are targeted demographically and also by travel motivation.

Apart from all this, the UK office of the MTA, has also signed several Joint Marketing Agreements with Tour operators, through which the UK office has trained well over 2000 travel agents and operators in 2022 alone.

Moreover, several press trips are regularly organised, as well as trade familiarisation trips, with the recent ones having 30 Agents attending, while another 80 agents and representatives attending a FAM Trip organised in collaboration with the Association of Independent Tour Operators.

The government revealed in a statement that over 208 people were arrested for living in Malta illegally over the past few weeks. Of these 208, 184 have been deported through flights coordinated for this effect.

The official statement did not reveal whether the migrants were repatriated or sent to other countries.

The police raids which took place over the past few weeks focused on areas such as Ħamrun, Marsa, Fgura, Paula, Bugibba, St Paul’s Bay, Attard and Gozo.

Minister for Home Affairs and Law Enforcement Byron Camilleri said that the ongoing work is being done to create ‘safer localities’ and send a clear message that breaching the law will not be tolerated.

Just when you thought the news of ‘Deadpool 3’ couldn’t get any better, a rumour has surfaced that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man may be joining the superhero movie’s star-studded cast.

After single-handedly breaking the internet upon revealing that ‘Deadpool 3’ is happening, Ryan Reynolds upped the ante when he revealed that Hugh Jackman will join the flick as Wolverine.

Beyond the fact that Deadpool and Spider-Man are a fan favourite duo in the Marvel Comics, they will now both form part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a Twitter account named ‘MCU Source’ suggested that Holland’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man will have a cameo in the unhinged mercenary’s third outing.

With all the talk of X-Men in Deadpool 2 and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X appearing alongside a slew of Marvel heroes in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the MCU.
