Claudette Buttiġieġ sings iconic ‘Desire’ at Martina Żammit’s wedding

Radio host Martina Żammit married her partner Emma in a beautiful celebration of love yesterday, and the event saw the return of one Malta’s greatest musical classics: Desire by Claudette Buttigieg.

Claudette took a career into politics, which limited her time from continuing to perform for the Maltese public. So yesterday’s wedding was more than a sweet surprise for all the attendees as they relived the song’s live return.

Maltese media sensation Ben Camille, who was a guest at the wedding, took to his Instagram stories to immortalise the moment it happened as the audience cheered on the music.

But ‘Desire’ was not the only classic that made a comeback during the night as Chiara, who represented Malta for the Eurovision Song Contest, also took to the stage to bring back some oldies and celebrate the wedding.

Over 50% of Maltese households in 2021 afforded going abroad at least once a year

According to newly released research by the National Statistics Office, it was revealed that 51.7% of Maltese households in 2021 afforded going abroad at least once a year.

The European Statistics on Income and Living Conditions survey collects several indicators related to general health and well-being.

According to the section ‘Share of households by their ability to afford certain items for the children in the household, 51.7% of households reported that they afforded to go on holiday away from home at least one week per year.

Meanwhile, 13.7% reported that the household could not afforded whereas 34.6% reported that they could not go abroad for other unspecified reasons.

Of course, 2021 saw the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, dropping airport traffic numbers significantly during that year. However, the numbers have been consistently improving, with Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo reporting that, in January of 2023, the amount of tourists coming to Malta improved significantly to 136,167.

As per outbound tourists in 2021, well over 300,000 outbound flights registered by Maltese, a 54.2% increase over 2020.

There was a special surprise however, as the upcoming song will feature vocals from the Maltese superstar Shaun Farrugia.

Martin Garrix and Shaun Farrugia have already collaborated on two songs last year, both of which quickly gained popularity around the world.

The new track was even teased during Garrix and Alesso’s performance at Miami Ultra, where Shaun Farrugia was also in attendance and had his collaboration music played to thousands.

Fans from around the globe are eagerly anticipating the release of the new song, which is sure to be another significant milestone in Shaun Farrugia’s career.

Shaun Farrugia makes Malta proud again at Ultra Miami

Shaun Farrugia’s track record has continued to elevate to new heights as he had his music blasted out for thousands of Ultra Miami attendees.

The Ultra Music Festival runs stages daily, with the opening dates seeing headline sets by top DJs such as Martin Garrix – a close friend and collaborator to the Maltese singer and songwriter.

The event brings other top artists like Rezz, Swedish House Mafia, Marshmello and Armin Van Buuren, giving a chance for Shaun’s music to be picked up by these internationally acclaimed creators as well.

Shaun of course has a couple of songs released in collaboration with Garrix, most notably ‘If We’ll Ever Be Remembered’ and ‘Starlight (Keep Me Afloat)’.

His work has gone on to earn him major record deals as well as appearances on various celebrity A-list platforms, including Love Island.
