The first turtle, named Axil, was spotted between Sa Maison and Haywharf. Crew members from the AFM Maritime Squadron P51 successfully located the turtle, which was then handed over to Nature Trust Malta for further care. According to the Wildlife Rescue Team, “Axil has a partially missing rear left flipper, and is now under veterinary care to assess if there is any infection present and what treatment is required.”

Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, closer to Gozo, another turtle was found in worse condition. With the help of local fisherman John Agius, the team managed to bring the turtle ashore. Named Nathalia, this turtle was discovered with a severe wound to her left front flipper, which was actively bleeding, as well as damage to her left eye.
