A video shared to TikTok by user @peachesbell shows a chimpanzee grabbing a bite of ice cream while with its owner in Malta.

The video has so far racked up over 147K views on the social media platform, showing the ape reaching for and grabbing the cool treat and munching on it in the vehicle.

At the International Labour Conference in Geneva, attended by all member states of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to social justice and decent work. These two principles lie at the heart of the ILO’s efforts to support the shift from informal to formal economies, where workers benefit from structured conditions and fair wages.
Addressing the plenary session, which included Maltese social partners, Dr Ellul stressed that in an era of rapid global change, safeguarding workers’ rights remains a key priority for the Maltese Government. He highlighted Malta’s pioneering role in regulating platform work, becoming one of the first countries globally to introduce legislation ensuring that workers in this sector are not paid below the national minimum wage. These legal reforms aim to reduce exploitation and promote fair and dignified employment conditions.
While in Geneva, Dr Ellul also held bilateral meetings with the labour ministers of Cyprus and Lithuania, Yiannis Panayiotou and Inga Ruginienė. Discussions centred on Malta’s approach to digital platform work, which drew praise from both counterparts. They noted that Malta had set an example for much larger countries through its early and proactive regulation of this emerging sector.
Dr Ellul concluded by emphasising that Malta’s efforts have not only improved the lives of local workers, but also positioned the country as a leader in labour market reform. The government remains committed to implementing laws that positively impact workers across all sectors.

An apartment block in Paceville collapsed last night, with footage and photos circulating online of the chaos that ensued.
In statements released after news broke of a apartment block collapse in St Julian’s, the Building & Construction Authority (BCA) and the Occupational Health & Safety Authority (OHSA) issued statements confirming that residents were evacuated before the collapse took place.

The BCA stated that on the 10th of June it ordered the works on the site, which was next to another building which had been demolished, to stop.
After inspections and discussions with architects involved, the decisions as taken and with then cooperation of police the residents were evacuated.
OHSA also said that inspections on the site were conducted and the same actions to ensure the safety of people were taken.

Yesterday, at around 11:30am, police were called in to assist during an altercation that broke out during a court hearing in one of the courtrooms.
According to investigations, the incident occurred as a 28-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay was leaving the courtroom on the court’s orders.
While exiting, he approached one of the individuals involved in the same case.
Several people present at the scene intervened immediately, along with police officers and court officials who were nearby.
The 28 year old man was promptly placed under arrest, while the other individual involved, a 49 year old man also from St Paul’s Bay, went to the nearest health centre, where he was later certified as having suffered grievous injuries.
Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
