Chicken Jockey Trend Persists In Maltese Cinemas Despite Warnings

Maltese youths continued the disruptive “Chicken Jockey” trend, despite strong warnings from local cinemas.

Audience members are still throwing snacks and toilet paper during a specific scene in the new Minecraft film, where Jack Black’s character exclaims “chicken jockey” as a baby zombie rides a chicken.

Eden Cinemas had previously warned that anyone participating in the chaos would be removed without a refund. However, the trend shows no signs of stopping.

Cinema goers continue to engage in the disruptive behaviour, mirroring incidents seen in other countries, including the US, where some attendees were even escorted out by police.

Malta Welcomes Holy Week Traditions With Palm Sunday

Malta Welcomes Holy Week Traditions With Palm Sunday
Apr 13 2025 Share

Today marks the start of Holy Week, one of the most important times in Malta’s religious calendar.

Churches across the islands held Palm Sunday services where locals gather in different towns each year to remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.

Throughout the week, towns and villages across Malta will be alive with tradition. Events like the Seven Visits, as well as the yearly night walk in aid of Puttinu Cares, will be held on Maundy Thursday. Good Friday processions will then take place all over Malta the following day.

All of this is in preparation for Easter Sunday, when joyful processions and the beloved tradition of the Risen Christ statue being run through the streets take place. It’s also a day for family lunches and of course, figolli, as it wouldn’t be a Maltese Easter without them.

A sightseeing double-decker bus was involved in a crash along the Coast Road at around 3:00pm this afternoon. Another vehicle appears to have been part of the collision as well.

The front of the bus was heavily damaged as it slammed into a rubble wall and some passengers seem to be stuck on the roof of the double-decker.

Emergency crews, including police and medical teams, responded quickly and are assisting those involved. No official statement has been released yet and it’s unclear whether anyone was injuried.

Traffic is being rerouted and delays are expected as the situation is ongoing.

Pn Candidate Michael Piccinino Reacts To Survey

Apr 13 2025 Share

Former Nationalist Party Secretary General Michael Piccinino has responded to the latest MaltaToday survey, which showed a 24,000-vote gap favouring Labour and signs of improved performance by the governing party.

In a Facebook post, Piccinino described the survey as “just a snapshot of the moment” and urged his party to reflect honestly on its current position.

He noted that despite the discouraging numbers and the survey showing that people are disillusioned with the current government, the Nationalist Party have to be honest with themselves and admit that they haven’t convinced people that the PN is the change Malta needs.

Concluding his message, Piccinino emphasised personal responsibility within the party, stating that everyone who wants to see a Nationalist government must ask themselves what more they can do to help persuade others that the PN is the right alternative for the country.
