Chayenne Riolo Nominated For Role Within Largest European Student Organisation

22-year old Chayenne Riolo has been nominated by SDM for the esteemed position of Vice President of the European Democratic Students Bureau.

The European Democratic Students Bureau is the youth wing of Europe’s largest political party, the center-right EPP. It is the largest pan European student organisation and represents over 600,000 students across 30 European states.

A Maltese person already holds the highest role possible, with Beppe Galea being the current Chairman/President of the EDS.

Chayenne will be hoping for similar success as her fellow SDM counterpart Beppe Galea.

In a post, Riolo, stated that it was truly an honour to be nominated for this role and that she is thankful to all who helped her and to SDM, a student organisation she has been a part of since she has been 15.

Olympic Athletes Debunk Paris “Anti-Sex” Bed Myth

In the build-up to the highly anticipated Summer Olympic Games, athletes arriving at the Olympic village will be sleeping on beds made of cardboard, often called “anti-sex beds”.

While this might not sound particularly sturdy, arrivals at the village have been testing the beds and sharing their experiences on social media.

British diver Tom Daley shared a video tour of his room in the village also addressing the bed situation, demonstrating the durability of the beds despite having cardboard bases. Irish gymnast Rhys McClenaghan also posted a video of himself bouncing on the bed to debunk the myths circulating online that the beds were designed to discourage athletes from having sex.

Organisers of the Paris Olympics have confirmed that the cardboard beds are part of their sustainability efforts.

According to Airweave, the manufacturer of these beds, they are capable of supporting several people.

Last weekend, 19-year-old Japanese gymnast and team captain Shoko Miyata was sent home for violating the terms of her own team’s smoking and alcohol ban.

Hamrun Spot Compared To ‘Slum’ As Residents Express Concern

A concerned Hamrun resident has taken to social media to voice their frustration with local authorities over the deteriorating condition of a promised green area.

The individual, disheartened by the current state of what was supposed to be a safe and appealing open space, shared a series of alarming photos showing the area in disarray. “You promised us an open space and we ended up with a ghetto outside our homes. The garden which is supposed to be enjoyed by Hamrun residents is now a ‘slum’ for foreigners,” the resident lamented.

The photos depict people washing and hanging their clothes, urinating on plants, and sleeping in the garden, painting a stark contrast to the initial promise of the community space. The poster, Manuel Chircop highlighted the apparent indifference and lack of action from authorities.

“We deserve better… much better,” the resident concluded, expressing a belief shared by many in the community who feel let down by unfulfilled promises and the current state of their neighbourhood.

Bernard Grech Requests Urgent Meeting With The MCESD Amidst Power Cuts.

The Leader of the Nationalist Party, Bernard Grech, has called for an urgent meeting with the MCESD to discuss the ongoing crisis of continuous power cuts that the people of Malta and Gozo have been facing.

In his message, Bernard Grech stated that the Maltese people deserve a government that plans and invests wisely in the power supply, providing necessary guarantees. He pointed out that it is becoming increasingly clear that the current government has failed to invest properly, leading to this continuous crisis due to a lack of planning and investment in infrastructure by the Labour Government over the past 10 years.

In the same address, Bernard Grech noted that many people are enduring long hours without power, severely affecting daily life and causing businesses to lose opportunities. Many are also forced to use generators outside their homes, creating continuous noise and further polluting the air.

He stated that the government should compensate those who suffered and incurred damage to appliances and other domestic equipment due to the power cuts. However, this compensation does not diminish the need for the government to take responsibility for this significant failure, which continues to bring new hardships to the people.

Bernard Grech stated that a Nationalist Party in government would invest seriously in the power distribution network to prevent the national crisis experienced last summer and the blackouts of recent weeks. He promised that the people would no longer suffer from power shortages and outages and that they would receive the best service based on a sustainable economic model that improves the quality of life for everyone.
