Chaos in Marsa after track overturns in Aldo Moro road

Alarming footage and imagery have emerged after a large truck overturned in Aldo Moro Road, Marsa at around 11:30am.

The truck reportedly collided with a pole on the road’s centre strip, deviating off its path and causing it to overturn. The Police have confirmed that a motorcyclist driving in the opposite direction was injured when the pole came down towards him. Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash but reportedly did not sustain any injuries in the collision.

The truck was reportedly carrying scrap metal, which fell off of it after it overturned. Officials within the Malta Police Force, Civil Protection and a number of ambulances with medical teams were called on site to assist with the situation. Infrastructure Malta have appealed to drivers to avoid Aldo Moro road and use alternative routes via Qormi and Luqa.

Maltese MP proposes making sports mandatory for kids and teens in Malta

MP Jean-Claude Micallef has proposed making sports mandatory for kids in Malta as part of developing a Common European Sports Policy.

Malta is currently ranking at number 1 in obesity apart from high blood pressure and high sugar related issues. ‘A mentality shift is imperative in terms of well-being and lifestyle’ he said.

He is now pushing forward some proactive ideas such as mandatory enrolment for kids between ages of 5 and 15 in any ports clubs. Parents would in turn get up to €1K tax reduction annually. Apart from supporting a better generation, the proposal aims to;

First, sustain a sports industry with over 100K active sports enrolments at one go; help build an upcoming generation that is more competitive, healthier mentally and physically, as well as; enrich one’s culture and education towards a sustainable environment, nutrition and well-being.

Micallef suggested the proposal when participating in the Working Group on Education, Culture, Youth and Sport as part of the Conference on the Future of Europe.

Micallef spoke to newsroom Newsbook, highlighting how while the EU focused extensively on economic and financial matters, no such attention was being focused on people’s wellbeing. This birthed the proposal for a European Common Sports Policy.

Drive to Survive Season 4 confirmed for 11th March on Netflix

Netflix’s popular ‘Drive to Survive’ Season 4 will be premiering on March 11th, set to depict all the drama from an astounding 2021 Formula 1 World Championship.F1 confirmed today in a press release that the highly anticipated series will be launching with another ten episodes in March, just a week before the 2022 season gets underway in Bahrain.

‘Offering unprecedented access, Season 4 will once again take fans behind the scenes, to witness first-hand how the drivers and teams prepare to battle it out in one of the sport’s most dramatic seasons to date’ it said.Fierce team rivalries, unexpected podiums and the intense connection between Mercedes and Red Bull will all be highlighted in the upcoming episodes.

Whereas most F1 drivers have bought into the Netflix documentaries, 2021 F1 World Champion Max Verstappen pulled out of the personal interview material, accusing the series of faking rivalries and tensions which were simply not true or blown out of proportion.

How the series will navigate Verstappen’s silence will be interesting to see, limiting his soundbites to what they have saved after each race weekend. It is not known if Lewis Hamilton collaborated with the making of the season.

When the series began in March 2018, both Mercedes and Ferrari decided not to open their doors to Netflix, but the success, particularly in the USA, and them making U-turn on the matter. The series is deemed to be turning people into Formula 1 fans, despite having had no idea of the sport beforehand.
