Champions league dream and a money making revamped stadium

During a special interview on 105FM this evening, newly elected Hamrun Spartans president, Joseph Portelli, promised the Hamrun Spartans supporters a new, beautifully-designed stadium with an amazing concept that will lock in a steady income whilst ensuring a bright and promising future for the Spartans.

Joseph Portelli emphasised that the design of the stadium will respect the surroundings, while Portelli’s right-hand man Mr. Marcel Bonnici ensured the supporters that the best architects, designers and accountants are working around the clock to make this project possible. Joseph Portelli added that according to their studies, the revamping of the stadium will be able to make overly 1 million euro per year for the club.

Ultimately, Joseph Portelli once again remarked that his ultimate dream is to help Hamrun Spartans make it to the qualification rounds of the Champions League.

As we should every single day, Women’s Day in particular is a global day where we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world and who would we be if we didn’t highlight some of the local individuals who have made ground-breaking achievements in our local scene and beyond. From pop performances to public health, touring with internationally-renowned DJs and repping the Maltese flag in sports scenes around the world, these Maltese women have been making waves amongst the thousands of other Maltese women and we couldn’t be prouder.

Our very own El Professor, Superintendent for Public Health Prof. Charmaine Gauci has become somewhat of a symbol of national courage throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and is a testament to women in authority and we are forever grateful for her efforts towards the Maltese islands’ public health.

Cheryl Lofreda

Choreographer, teacher, dancer and founder of the now-iconic dance troupe The MVMT, a.k.a Concept of Movement, Cheryl Lofreda has had an exceptional and after making themselves known by winning World of Dance and gathering numerous other accolades, this dance mastermind took her group to the finals of Malta’s Got Talent and cemented herself as a young leader in the arts scene.

Claire Azzopardi

Maltese athlete and multiple-time record holder Claire Azzopardi has made herself known time and time again through her exceptional performances in national and international competitions and has kept up the momentum this year. Beyond winning U23 Athlete of the Year and securing the triple-jump national record, it looks like Claire has nowhere to go but up.

Emma Tranter

This globe-trotting gal has been making waves literally and figuratively by touring festivals, clubs and stadiums around the world with her star-studded roster of international DJs. Simultaneously working as a content creator for Jamie Jones, tour managing the world’s highest-ranking female DJ duo in Nervo and serving as Sigala’s tour photographer, Emma has been documenting some of the best moments the music scene has to offer with brighter days on the horizon, we can’t wait to see what content is coming.

Francesca Curmi

At just 18-years-old, Francesca Curmi has established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the tennis scene and just recently went all the way to the Futures Event ITF Monastir finals, being the first-ever Maltese tennis player to go that far. Despite being so young, Francesca has already gathered praise and numerous accolades the world-over and that just goes to show you what a bright future she has ahead of her.

Roberta Metsola

A name which needs no introduction, Roberta Metsola is a force of nature and beyond, impressively balancing her role as the First Vice-President of the European Parliament with a job which may be just as difficult… motherhood. Roberta Metsola is a testament to women in politics and anyone aspiring to follow such a career should take note of her remarkable contributions.

Emma Muscat

Singer-songwriter sensation Emma Muscat rose to fame in Malta and beyond through her appearance in hit Italian reality show Amici and it only got better from there. Emma Muscat has been releasing one bop after the other with her latest, ‘Sangria’ being certified gold. Apart from that, the pop-star rocks close to a quarter-million monthly listeners on Spotify and, judging by how she’s doing nowadays, that number can only grow.

Haley Bugeja

An absolute marvel on the field, Haley Bugeja has been racking up one accolade after the other and even drawing the attention of football’s foremost authority FIFA. Just recently, she ranked in the top 10 under-21 goal scorers in the European League through her insane performances with Italian Serie A side Sassuolo FC and paired with her performances in the Maltese national team, this 16-year-old-soccer star is destined for greatness.

Martina Borg

A personification of women in business and co-founder of Maltese jewellery brand Carisma collections, this young entrepreneur has been making waves in her sector and at just 21 years of age no less. Launching one iconic collection after the other, Carisma Collections has become something of a household name and with Martina and her two brothers at the helm, the brand can only continue growing.

Oldest Maltese woman turns 109

Maria Farrugia is Malta’s oldest living woman who just celebrated her 109th birthday. Farrugia was born in Hamrun in 1912 and her mother had lived to the age of 100.

Maria was a seamstress and used her skill to help her family make a living. She is a mother of 3, only to outlive two of her own children, and was widowed at the age of 54. We wish Maria a Happy 109th birthday and a Happy Women’s Day!
