Excessive heat has led to evaporating waters which in turn caused Chadwick Lakes becoming a fish graveyard. The Environment Resources Authority (ERA) revealed that it is looking into the matter and revealed how initial statements point to the fish dying due to warm evaporating waters.
This is unfortunately a yearly tragedy when the dry season hits. Alien fish and freshwater animals introduced into the ponds are the creatures affected the most. ERA also urged people not to release any aquarium fish in local freshwaters due to them becoming invasive species.
A post released onto the famous ‘il-kabocc u xwejha’ Maltese Facebook group shows the horrific scene. Group creator Christopher revealed how his friend went to Chadwick Lakes only to find hundreds of deceased goldfish. He slammed authorities for leaving the fish there for people to see, despite not allowing people trying to save them with nets.
