Johnny Depp's Dior perfume selling one bottle every 3 seconds
May 26 2022 Share

While most brands and productions chose to distance themselves from Johnny Depp amid the current media storm surrounding his and Amber Heard’s court case, one brand chose to stick with him and benefitted considerably.

Luxury fashion house Dior reportedly sold one bottle of Dior Sauvage “every three seconds in 2021, making it the bestselling perfume in both the male and female categories.”

The Depp-endorsed Sauvage was the first male fragrance to reach the number one spot worldwide. Despite this recent achievement, Dior Sauvage has been a globally best-selling product since 2015.

Selling at a cool $160 per bottle, a ‘Sauvage’ purchase every 3 seconds equates to $4.5 million in sales.

The Malta International Arts Festival is BACK with a jam-packed schedule!

The Malta International Arts Festival is BACK with a jam-packed schedule!
May 26 2022 Share

From the moment Festivals Malta introduced Malta’s summer schedule, we knew we were in for a jam-packed season of events and entertainment and the Malta International Arts Festival (MIAF) is definitely one to keep an eye on.

The MIAF has become synonymous with the Maltese summer schedule and is a definite must-visit for lovers of performing arts such as music, dance, theatre and visual arts. It will host a total of 12 different performances over a period of two weeks between 18th June and 3rd July 2022, welcoming international acts such as Les Nuits Barbares Ou Les Matins Du Monde, Carolina Eyck and internationally acclaimed flutist Massimo Mercelli.

The festival will also host four incredible workshops; Open Workshops by Linda Kapetanea & Josef Frucek, Moving the Skin by ASUN, Contemporary Dance by Guillaume Gabriel and Hip Hop Practice by Houssni Mijem. The workshops offer an in-depth exploration into the mind & body and anyone wishing to attend should register at their earliest convenience on the official festival website.

Beyond workshops, the Malta International Arts Festival offers an excellent, multi-disciplinary programme of performances as found below:

Les Nuits Barbares Ou Les Matins Du Monde

Les Nuits Barbares Ou Les Matins Du Monde tells a tale of different Mediterranean cultures which unite on stage with an awe-inspiring performance which is sure to take your breath away. The stage performers are all immigrants themselves and elegantly fuse their cultures into their chilling contemporary choreography and acrobatic stunts.

Carolina Eyck

For audiophiles and music lovers, Carolina Eyck will be delivering a captivating performance blending the sound of her own voices with the otherworldly frequencies of the theremin. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the theremin is an electronic music instrument which utilises the manipulation of electronic fields through two antennae to create the ethereal sounds it is well known for. Pair that with the Carolina Eyck’s vocal performance and you are in for an unforgettable show.

Rito

Rito, on the other hand, is a visual arts performance which communicates the delicate relationship between humanity and nature without uttering a single word. The complex, symbolic performance performance utilises sculpture, light, sound and choreography to deliver sensory and cognitive story which is sure to leave you at the edge of your seat.

Beethoven Forever

A family-friendly performance which gives new meaning to classical music, Beethoven Forever welcomes local performer Chris Dingli on stage to guide the audience through Beethoven’s six symphonies. Coupling one-of-a-kind animations with a stellar orchestral performance from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, this show is definitely one to watch for seasoned classical music aficionados and young, future enthusiasts alike!

Stones and Bones

Effectively blending theatre with dance, Stones and Bones shines a light on the actual conditions of creation through the extraordinary choreographed efforts of 4 female performers. At the centre of the performance are large marble sculptures that give off a unique sound which pairs perfectly with the performance’s musical accompaniment.

M.A.D. Music and Dance

The third edition of M.A.D. Music and Dance within the framework of the Malta International Arts Festival will welcome dance artists Dmytro Gyrnov and Sarah Vella for a masterclass in interdisciplinary performance. The contemporary choreographies will accompanied by a myriad of live music which will captivate your senses unlike anything you have ever seen before!

Other shows and performances include Sunrise Mass, a two-part show featuring Belgian String Quartet Boho 4 with Zfin Malta and a magnificent rendition of Ola Gjeilo’s ‘Sunrise Mass’ performed by KorMalta, Chaotic Harmony featuring international flutist Massimo Mercelli, Harbour Odyssey which is a theatrical narrative held on the front deck of a beautiful 38-metre long vessel and Leġġendi which tells the tale of local legends and myths at Baċir No.1 in Bormla, amongst many others.

The full programme can be viewed on the Festivals Malta website so if you haven’t already, mark your calendars, book your tickets and get ready for an arts festival unlike any other!

Send this to someone who would love the MIAF!
